Pizza is something I make quite often especially when I want something quick and effortless. I am not one for making my own pizza dough so I get a little help from my friend Trader Joe. At the Trader Joes in my area you can buy white, whole wheat, or even garlic and herb dough for only 99 cents.
When I make my own pizza I like to "assemble" my own sauce. Here's the super easy method: Mince about 5 cloves of garlic and saute them in some extra virgin olive oil for about 5 minutes or so. Then add a pinch of red pepper flake for some kick. To that add a 28oz can of crushed tomatoes. Add about a teaspoon of sugar to cut the acidity and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer it for about 10 - 15 minutes. The longer it cooks the thicker and more flavorful it gets.
I topped my pizza with mozzarella, heirloom & Roma tomatoes, mushrooms, and mini turkey pepperoni. The great thing about making your own pizza is the fact that the flavor combinations are endless.
